The 12 Days of Christmas Survival

12 days of Christmas survival

How to look after your health and wellbeing in the run up to the festive season.

Stay hydrated! Keep a bottle of water with you at all times

  1. Dehydration is one of the major symptoms of a hangover, so if you are planning a big night out then make sure you are fully hydrated beforehand (Your pee should be a light straw colour). To ensure you are fully hydrated aim to drink 2-3 litres of water during the day and keep sipping water throughout the night. If you wake-up dehydrated take an electrolyte mix to help your body absorb water. Rehydration salts, such as one available at your local chemist, or my favourite, High Five’s Zero with no added sugar, will help your system get back into balance.

  2. Even if you’re not planning drinking late into the night, it’s still important to keep hydrated to protect your skin. The combination of central heating and harsh, cold weather can really take its toll on your skin. By ensuring you are fully hydrated you can protect your skin and keep a healthy glow.

  3. Some studies suggest that when you haven’t drunk enough water your body receives mixed signals and make you think you are hungry. Dehydration can cause you to think you need to eat when, in reality, you really need to increase your liquid intake. By drinking water throughout the day you can keep your appetite in check.
